What are the requirements?
- Education: BA or BS in any discipline; however persons without a college degree are also welcome to apply. One does not have to be a trained teacher.
- Age: Mature college students through senior adults.
- Willing to work in challenging conditions:
- Summer temperatures in China are often 85-90 degrees.
- Classrooms have ceiling fans but not all are air conditioned.
- Volunteers are expected to teach 5 hours per day.
- Walking up to one mile (with breaks) and climbing stairs.
- Applicants over 60 years of age are asked to get a physical and get permission from their physician.
- Insurance: chinaconnect will provide evacuation insurance. Volunteers must have their own medical insurance.
Vaccinations? chinaconnect strongly encourages you to contact your family physician regarding which vaccinations you should have. Information can be found on The Center for Disease Control's (CDC) website.
What kind of training will I receive to teach ESL? chinaconnect will provide you with curriculum before you leave for China. A brief training session will be held in Beijing on the basics of teaching ESL. The internet also has an abundant amount of information available on teaching ESL.
What is the cost and what does it cover? $1450 covers to cost for fees, room, board, and transportation within China during the Orientation and Evaluation periods. Volunteers are responsible for their own airfare to/from China, US Passport, and China visa. Travel costs to Xi'an will be about $350.
Housing? Teachers will stay in clean, air-conditioned and modest hotels or guest houses during Orientation, Evaluation, teaching periods, and extra travel.

April 15: Applications and fees are due at the chinaconnect office.
April 20: Apply for China Visa. chinaconnect will send you instructions.
